Select Ingredients
- Onion & garlic - I prefer to use yellow onions in this recipe as I feel it blends well with the other ingredients and adds a subtle sweetness.
- Ground turkey - 97% lean ground turkey works well in this recipe. If you're using 99% lean, you may want to increase the seasonings to flavor it well as sometimes ultra lean turkey can tend to be somewhat flavorless. You can also use lean ground beef as well.
- Black beans - You can swap these for kidney beans if you prefer. Kidney beans have a similar hearty texture and mild flavor, so they hold up well and complement the other ingredients in this recipe.

Recipe Tips & Variations
➡️ Protein swap - Not a fan of ground turkey? You can use ground chicken, beef or even plant-based crumbles for a vegetarian option.
➡️ Spice it up - If you want a little kick, add diced green chiles or jalapenos. You can even add a pinch of cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes for more spice!
➡️ Meal prep or freeze - This soup stays good in the refrigerator for about 4-5 days and freezes well up to 6 months. Store in single-serve containers for easy grab-and-go lunches.
